colesterol VLDL

What it is:

VLDL cholesterol is produced in the liver and its function is to transport triglycerides, which are a type of fat present in the body by the bloodstream to be stored in the cells and used for energy production.

The VLDL is considered a bad cholesterol along with LDL , because their high levels in the blood cause the accumulation of fat in the arteries and plaque formation of atherosclerosis , increasing the risk of heart disease .

The low amount of VLDL cholesterol has no consequence for the health of the individual, it indicates little presence of triglycerides and fat in the body . On the other hand , high VLDL cholesterol should be controlled since it accelerates the onset of atherosclerosis and increases the chances of getting heart and metabolic diseases .

Reference values ​​for VLDL cholesterol

The reference values ​​of VLDL cholesterol are :

Low : below 30 mg / dl
Ideal : 30 mg / dl
Top: above 40 mg / dl
The blood test that determines the levels of triglycerides and VLDL cholesterol should be done regularly , especially in patients with risk of cardiovascular disease .

To reduce VLDL cholesterol in the blood a healthy diet low in fats should be practicing regular exercise and avoiding alcohol and cigarettes .
