Testicular Self Exam

Testicular self-examination is an examination that man himself can do in order to identify changes in the genitals , being useful for the diagnosis of diseases such as infections and cancer in the testicle .

How do testicular self-examination

Testicular self-examination should be done as follows:

1. Standing in front of the mirror, watch for changes in texture and color of the testes and scrotum ;

2 . Examine the testicles with both hands , for it must put the middle finger and index finger and thumb behind the testicle upon testis . After sliding the testicle between your fingers to assess the presence of lumps . This movement usually causes no pain ;

3 . Find the epididymis , a small canal located behind the testicle where sperm passes . It should be identified not to be confused with a suspicious mass or swollen glands ;

If testicular self-examination during the individual find the presence of coroços the size of a pea , which does not cause pain in the front of the testicles , should make an appointment with a urologist to evaluate the situation . Normally these nodes can be a sign of infection , but if not , is likely to be a cancer.

The self-examination of the testes should be performed monthly , preferably after a warm shower because the heat relaxes the region , facilitating the observation of changes . During the self-examination , the man should look for changes in the testes as:


  • Diferença in size;
  • Feeling of heaviness in the scrotum ;
  • Presence of a mass or hard lump in the testicle ;
  • Pain in the lower belly or groin ;
  • Presence of blood in the scrotum ;
  • Pain or discomfort in the testicle or scrotum.


Testicular self-examination should be done from adolescence , that man has the notion of normal size and shape of the testicles and see any change in this body more easily .

Testicular cancer is a common disease in man , but curable when diagnosed and treated early .
